Intervening to Effectively Reduce Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

In our community we have been piloting projects that use Family School Navigators (FSNs) to coordinate between families and schools in developing working partnerships that improve family functioning and school-family communication, as well as allow for earlier developmental screening for all children. FSNs work with Care Managers (when families are Medicaid eligible) to provide a "warm hand off" for children to health care providers. The program is designed to both prevent and mitigate the impact of ACEs. Much more research is needed to specify how to create the best "fit" between this model and varying community needs, as well as how to scale the model.
