BSSR Resources, Methods, and Measures

Local validation of measures

All measurement is local. Scales for assessing social and medical needs and outcomes developed in one location often don't work in other locations due to differences in data availability, demographics, culture, etc. The best measures have been validated in multiple locations, such as the SF36 or AUDIT. So OBSSR should fund research that validates measures of social support, well-being, stress, adverse experiences, etc. in a variety of settings so we begin knowing which ones work and which ones need local tuning to be reliable and valid.
